(1) Branch resigned as speaker 3/16, and Crump was again elected, resigning 5/1 to be succeeded the same day by Bourland, who resigned 5/11 and was succeeded by Perkins. Members of the Texas Congress 1836-1845; Members of the Texas Legislature 1846-2004, 2005.

- Texas Army, First Lieutenant, Texas Revolution. "At the outbreak of the Texas Revolution, he joined the revolutionary army. He served as first sergeant of William M. Logan's company from March 6 to June 6, 1836, and saw action at the battle of San Jacinto. He later reenlisted and served from July 7 to October 7, 1836, as first lieutenant in a company led by Benjamin Franklin Hardin." Handbook of Texas Online.

"Branch subsequently made his way to Liberty, where he taught school for several months before volunteering for Sam Houston’s army, coincidentally on the day the Alamo fell. Enrolled as a sergeant in the decisive Battle of San Jacinto several weeks later, he rose to lieutenant during a second tour of military duty in the late summer and early fall of 1836."
