Charges

  • Determine the feasibility of gaining Texas' release from requirements to pre-clear all changes in state and local election law under the U.S. Voting Rights Act.
  • Examine and evaluate the role of financial contributions in campaigns for election to state offices. Identify practices or trends that may be detrimental to the public interest and study ways to eliminate or reverse those trends. (Joint with House Committee on State Affairs)
  • Conduct active oversight of agencies under the committee's jurisdiction, and monitor implementation of major elections-related legislation passed by the 75th Legislature.
