- Examine the potential for the development and use of geothermal energy in Texas.
- Review Texas' trends in production of oil, natural gas, coal, and lignite. Evaluate the effects of such trends on Texas' status as an importer and exporter of energy; Texas' role in the world energy economy; state revenues derived from energy production, transport, sale and use; the state economy generally.
- Conduct active oversight of the agencies under the committee's jurisdiction.
