Charges
- Study the use of electronic devices to intercept wire and oral communication as a crime-fighting tool. The study shall cover all aspects of the issue, including an assessment of the effectiveness of the practice in combating crime, our ability to control its use, and its implications for the rights of the individual.

Oversight functions shall be conducted for all appropriations-related actions of those agencies assigned to this committee for appropriations purposes during the 66th Regular Session of the Legislature. The agencies include:
Criminal Justice Division (Office of the Governor)
Court of Criminal Appeals
State Prosecuting Attorney before the Court of Criminal Appeals
Texas Prosecutors Coordinating Council
- Review the current status of the Speedy Trial Act as a result of amendments enacted by the 66th Regular Session of the Legislature.
- Study the Quad State program to determine the benefits for Texas to become a member of this organization.
- Continue to examine the need for additional development of a criminal history record system with emphasis on necessary rules to avoid future problems with the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA). The efforts should be coordinated with the Committee on Security and Sanctions.
