Charges
- Study the concept of a separate department of industrial standards to oversee the regulation of air conditioning contractors, plumbers, electricians, etc.
- Compare Texas' condominium housing laws and regulations with those of other states and determine the need for revision. Should the need for revision exist, begin preparation of legislation to be introduced at the beginning of the 68th legislative session. Begin preparation of a bill to be filed in the next legislative session amending the Texas Uniform Condominium Act.
- Study the possibility of creating a Texas Department of Commerce and Tourism by combining the Travel Division of Texas Highways and Public Transportation, the Texas Tourist Development Agency, the Texas Industrial Commission, the Texas Film Commission and other related agencies.

Oversight functions shall be conducted for all appropriations-related actions of those agencies assigned to this committee for appropriative purposes during the 67th Regular Session of the Legislature. In addition, a study should be made of the impact of any federal cuts, and the differences in the operational aspect of the agencies under block vs. categorical grants. Close scrutiny should be given to each agency to ascertain if legislative intent is being carried out in the rules promulgated by the agency and if the rules are feasible and practical in their application. - Study the effects of the Texas Blue Law and its impact on the state's economy and the ramifications on employees and morale attitudes.
- Study private enterprise vs. government in terms of bidding on state projects and providing certain services.
- Examine the effectiveness of legislation enacted by the 67th Legislature relating to landlord/tenant relations and determine if additional measures are needed to bring Texas into step with other states.
- Study our state's role in international trade.
