  • Obituary and photo, Elmer Emory Bedell, "Former County Demo Chairman E.E. Bedell Dies," 2/15/1959, pp. 1, 8. "Mr. Bedell was elected a representative of Smith County for two terms. And while representing the county, Mr. Bedell found himself involved in passing a law requiring free textbooks for students in public schools, giving women the right to vote and impeachment proceedings against Jim Ferguson. The textbook law was one of the first major educational steps taken by the state, and Mr. Bedell saw action on the law as a member of the committee which drafted the textbook law."
