Born 9/26/1811 in Frederick County, Maryland, son of Gen. Horatio Philpott. "Of his early life in Alabama, we have not much data before us. We learn that by the age of 21, he was a clerk in the State Senate of Alabama; at the age of 25 he commanded a company in the Florida War against the Indians in 1835, and afterwards served one or two terms in the Alabama Legislature, but whether Senator or Representative we do not remember.
