(1) Rockwall was part of Kaufman County until 1873. ROCKWALL, TX (ROCKWALL COUNTY). "In the late 1840s members of the Boydstun family of Illinois settled on a 572-acre tract of land near the East Fork of the Trinity River; they were the first Anglo-Americans to arrive in the area, which at that time was part of Kaufman County . . . In 1873 the state legislature established Rockwall County from part of Kaufman County, and Rockwall became the county seat. The town was incorporated in 1874." Handbook of Texas Online.

"The property in controversy, a lot in the city of Terrell, was originally the homestead of A.D. Edwards and his first wife Florence Edwards, and was a part of their community estate. Florence Edwards died in the year 1877, having devised her interest to her children. In the year 1880 Edwards intermarried with Mrs. Kate Knight, who is now Mrs. Craddock, one of the appellants in this suit." Supreme Court of Texas.
