- United States Cavalry, Major, World War I; United States Army, Colonel, World War II. "After graduating from Temple Business College he became a major in the cavalry during World War I and served with the 128th and 2nd Cavalry Brigades. Afterwards, and before World War II, he had a successful career as director of public relations for Texas Power and Light Company in Dallas . . . In 1942, he reentered the army as captain and served as provost marshal at Camp Hulen before being assigned to Fort Bliss in 1943 as director of security and provost marshal. His obvious capabilities earned him the rank of colonel before his retirement in 1946." 63rd Legislature, 1st C.S., HCR 8.
